In July 2021, we launched #GotYourBackNHS in response to a string of scathing attacks on NHS workers.

The final straw was a demonstration in central London, where an anti-vaxxer compared NHS staff to Nazis in an infamous speech that went viral on social media.

Drowning out the negativity

We wanted to drown out the noise from that speech with an outpouring of love for NHS staff, and the hashtag #GotYourBackNHS immediately generated a groundswell of support.

Within a few minutes it was trending at number 1 in the UK, with more than 10,000 uses in a single day.

Continued use of the hashtag

We have continued to use the hashtag as a symbol of defiance when our colleagues come under attack on social media, and it has been used many more thousands of times since the day it was launched.

Sadly, the instances of abuse are increasing all the time, as a growing number of people seemingly forget the sacrifices that NHS staff have made for more than 18 months.

Please do use the hashtag to show your ongoing support for staff; they really do need it more than ever.
